Working groups & areas

BalticNet-PlasmaTec is structured in two working areas without a thematically focus and different working groups with special thematic focus.

Our working groups / areas

At the moment we have six different working groups. Suggestions for new working groups are always welcome. If you would like to join one of the groups, please get in contact with us.

Our working groups are topic or country specific groups. They provide an opportunity for our members with similar interests to discuss, lobby, promote and explore particular these areas.

Working groups

Plasma & Bio
The combination of plasma technology with life sciences is organises in the working group Plasma & Bio. Using the slogan “Plasma technologies for a healthier life”, the working group addresses the combination of physical plasma with life science and medicine. Our members cooperate in the area of: plasma medicine (e.g. application of plasma technologies for wound healing, decontamination, therapy of skin diseases, etc.), plasma and food (e.g. decontamination of food, decontamination during production process, etc.) and plasma for biotechnology (e.g. support of immobilisation of bioactive substances, etc.).
Plasma & Energy
On request, new working groups could be established. Currently, the potential to build up a working group focusing on energy systems (Plasma & Energy) is in discussion. This working group could address the challenges of energy saving (e.g. low friction coatings), energy storage (e.g. fuel cells, accumulators) and energy production (e.g. pyrolysis, hydrogen production, solar energy).
Plasma & Environment
The focus of the working group Plasma & Environment are applications of plasma for environmental protection with the slogan “Plasma technologies for a healthier environment”. The main topics are: exhaust gas and air cleaning, especially the reduction of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and the NOx and SOx reduction; water cleaning using plasma based advanced oxidation processes (PbAOP); waste to energy conversion, energy storage and substitution of wet chemistry for coatings.
Plasma & Internationalisation
The working group Plasma & Internationalisation supports the cooperation between members from the cluster with relevant stakeholders in different countries like Brazil, Canada, China, India and USA. Different working mission have been and will be organised to the target countries. The main goal of this working group will be to open up new markets for the members and to support them with the market entry.

Plasma & Surfaces
The working group Plasma & Surfaces bundling activities around surface modification. Using the slogan “Plasma technologies for functional surfaces”, the working group concentrate on e.g. activation, cleaning, coating, etching etc. to get functional surfaces.

Working areas

Plasma & Education
Plasma & Education focuses on common international education using the slogan “Understanding plasma”. Typical activities are the organisation of industrial placements, on-the-job training, advanced training and events for employees and as well as students like summer schools and workshops.
Plasma & Marketing
Plasma & Marketing includes the technology and scientific marketing. The used slogan is “Making plasma technology more visible”. All activities to increase the visibility of plasma technology and the growth of the BalticNet-PlasmaTec cluster are bundled in this working area.
