Mission
The Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy is a pioneer and a driver of bioeconomy research.
We create the scientific foundation to transform agricultural, food, industrial and energy systems into a comprehensive bio-based circular economy. We develop and integrate techniques, processes and management strategies, effectively converging technologies to intelligently crosslink highly diverse bioeconomic production systems and to control them in a knowledge-based, adaptive and largely automated manner. We conduct research in dialogue with society – knowledge-motivated and application-inspired.
Vision
A circular, diverse, innovative and sustainable bioeconomy produces healthy food for all, operates on the basis of renewable raw materials and facilitates the realization of One Health for humans, animals and the environment.
Areas of competence
- Microbiome biotechnology
- Technology assessment and substance cycles
- Postharvest technology
- Engineering for crop production
- Engineering for livestock management
- Horticultural engineering
- Data Science
Generating and transferring knowledge
Our objective is to provide significant contributions to solving socially relevant issues for the scientific and general public and to transfer knowledge into economy. We pursue this goal in interdisciplinary teams formed by scientific and technical staff, covering a broad spectrum of methods from natural, engineering and economic sciences. ln research we cooperate with leading groups worldwide. Our research results are published on national and international level. We use our knowledge for the benefit of society. We are open to new ideas.
Safeguarding quality
We are committed to the principles and rules of Good Scientific Practice as described by the recommendations of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the “Leibniz Association“.
We – scientific, technical, and administrative staff – act conscientiously, transparently and comprehensibly towards ourselves and others. We continuously further develop the scientific methods and tools for carrying out our research. Through the close linking of research methods with the substantive tasks we ensure the quality of our research and optimize our inventory of methods for the specific application. lt is our goal to further strengthen the confidence and recognition from our partners – both on national and international level – by the quality, experience, continuity and commitment of our scientific work.
Taking responsibility
We acknowledge our responsibility for people, society and nature. Our research is committed to the principles of sustainability.
We take responsibility for all people and care for an open interaction that is characterized by respect, solidarity, inclusion and equity.
At our institute, the equality of employees is expressed culture. ATB promotes the careers of men and women and their participation in the scientific life in equal measure.
We are committed to a culture that appreciates the professional, family and community related responsibilities of all employees. We promote the reconciliation of work and family.
We promote young scientists and technicians by offering structured activities and enable them to creative and responsible work in interdisciplinary teams.
We provide the best possible training and promotion to our employees.
