THE INSTITUTE CONSISTS OF:

 

 

The Institute of Mechatronics, Nanotechnology and Vacuum Technique has been established in year 2007 as a successor of Institute of Materials Engineering active in years 1972-1985. Human potential and long standing research tradition in materials science, vacuum technologies and surface finishing are the key attributes of the Institute. Strategic goal of the Institute is to foster economic development of Central Pomerania in close inter regional collaboration with the industry of neighbor countries in the Baltic Sea region.

 

RESEARCH AND SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY

 

Research activities of the Institute are focused on:

 

 

Faculty research areas are mainly concentrated in the development of novel materials for today's tool, automotive and other high-tech industries. These materials may be bulk or thin film format and range from ceramics to metallic alloys and nanocomposites. Additional research activities involve advanced materials characterization, plasma processes diagnostics and control, thermo-chemical processes and development of wear resistant, low friction coatings deposited by vacuum plasma based techniques on tools for wood and furniture industry applications.

 

The Institute, as a member of Pan Pomeranian association BalticNet PlasmaTec, promotes clean, environment friendly plasma technologies with the applications spanning from sterilization in medicine and food industry, through exhaust gas filtering to plasma based coating processes for tool and automotive industries.

The Institute collaborates with leading European research institutions in France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and Great Britain.

 

TEACHING ACTIVITIES

 

The Institute offers graduate courses in Mechatronics and Materials Engineering. The course of Mechatronics focuses on modern control and monitoring of industrial processes, sensors, robots, manipulators as well as pneumatic and electric propulsion systems. This course establishes a foundation in theories of mathematical modeling, design of control algorithms and process simulation, informatics and electronics. Students apply this knowledge in design of robots, actuators and interfaces as well as programming of microcontrollers. The course of Materials Engineering is an interdisciplinary program. Students are given a firm foundation in the physics and chemistry of materials, plasma physics, thermodynamics and structure of materials, and finally on the latest technological aspects of materials in today's manufacturing environment.
