Project focus

Plasma technology for the environment (Plasmaplusenvironment)

Ppumwelt2The rising environmental impact by hydrocarbons, NOx and SOx can be effectively avoided by the use of economically working plasma filters. The Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology extends the application spectrum of the plasma filters together with partners from Poland and Denmark.

The plasma technology connects ecology and economy and makes up for wet-chemical procedures. For example, surfaces are cleaned up to the disinfection without chemicals and galvanic procedures are completely substituted.

Plasma technology in the biology (PlasmaplusBio)

PpbioThe innovation initiative Plasma plusBio uses the developing and market potential of plasma technology in life sciences including the medicine technology. Sterilisation and antimicrobial active layers, specific agent release or the plasma-supported surface modification and -functionalisation for e.g. implants are to be called. Herewith in particular Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is set up as a competence region in this area. To deepen the competence, new partners are always welcome.

Further applications are the catalyst production, the fuel cell, the nano-and micropowder, the corrosion protection, the illuminates as for example automobile headlights.

Plasma technology in the field of vacuum technology/ surface modification

vakuumtechnologieWithin the scope of this work changes on material surfaces by coating with hard or functional layers or by molecular modification are worked out. Here close to industry, bilateral projects are worked on, e.g. tool finishing.

In the field of vacuum applications / hard layers an Interreg IIIa project was realised together with the Institute of Mechatronics Nanotechnology and Vacuum Technique at the Koszalin University of Technology. Title of the Interreg IIIa project: “Implementation of modern vacuum plasma technologies in creating tools to wood and wood related materials processing for furniture, forestry and wood industry demands in the Pomerania Euro region”. New project topics were discussed on a workshop „Innovative vacuum applications “in Greifswald. In particular the two subjects “nano structured thin film dioxide layers and „intermetallic coatings” became further elaborated to international project proposals.

International basic and advanced training

Aus- und WeiterbildungIn this organisational main focus occurs the coordination of the basic and advanced training schemes as for example the organisation of a summer school, the realisation of common lectures and the initiation of personnel exchange.

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hippler (Institute of physics of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University of Greifswald) a common application for funding was made within the scope of the Sokrates IP Programme in the EU. With the help of the project common lectures could be carried out to the theoretical and practical bases of plasma physics and their use in science and technology. For the first time in 2007 a common summer school was organised in Greifswald. The follow-up application was made scheduled and granted, so that in 2008 the summer school will take place in Koszalin.

The made application for establishment of a study course with a double degree was not yet granted for 2008, but it was recommended to apply again for 2009. This was already submitted for the period 2008/09.

BalticNet-PlasmaTec organised already 2 symposia with the network relevant main focuses: Life Science, energy and materials as well as new production technologies within the scope of the “7th framework programme of the EU” (7. FP). Because the very complicated application procedure for the 7. FP of the EU, all participants accepted the helpful tips to the application procedure.

In the field of the advanced training of wider audience, the first efforts were undertaken by the SPNT for the production of an on-line encyclopaedia for plasma technology. This basic framework must be developed under the involvement of other partners.

Marketing

Marketing_messeIn this working group all outside-effective activities are planned and co-ordinated.

Within the scope of the network establishing the marketing work is a central component of the activities. The use of the low temperature plasmas as a key technology and cross section technology can find a more spread in the industry only with the help of marketing.

The external representation of the network already occurred on numerous national and international fairs, workshops and events.
